Other Support Opportunities in Psychology

Summer employment

Graduate students may request and be assigned TA appointments for Summer Session.

Additional academic year appointments

Occasionally, there are also opportunities for additional 25% TA appointments during the academic year to meet the department’s teaching assistant needs. This is only available to United States Citizens and Permanent Residents.

Anderson Travel/Research Award

Three times a year, the Graduate Coordinator will issue a call for applications for the Anderson Travel and Research Fund, to support travel to present a research work at a scholarly conference or to conduct research. These awards are possible due to a generous gift from Professor Emeritus Norman Anderson.

Those without outside grant funding, those who have received minimally from the fund in the past, and those with seniority are given preference. The size of the award varies with available funding but awards in the $700 range are typical.

Grant Incentive

The department encourages graduate students to apply for extramural funding. If you have applied for any grants that meet the criteria below, you are eligible for a $100 stipend grant incentive:
  • The grant for which you are applying must be valued at $2000 or greater
  • The grant must come from outside the university, and must be applied for by you (i.e. advisors' grant applications do not count)
  • You must have applied for the grant in the current academic year and be a registered student
  • You must provide a copy of your complete grant application (using the form below).

Submit Grant Incentive requests using this form. Please note that there is a maximum of 5 $100 awards per academic year per student.

Honorable Mention Award

Those who receive an honorable mention or its equivalent in major grant competitions will be eligible to receive $500  in stipend from the department. This includes those who receive an honorable mention in the NSF GRFP and NDSEG competitions. Other major awards, of the scope of those named above, may be submitted to Sam to be considered by the Grad Affairs Committee. You are responsible for informing Sam of the disposition of your application (within two weeks), so that she can disburse any honorable mention award.
